Why do we yawn?

1. 1

   Fuzz says

When you're tired or bored, your mouth stretches open wide and you take a great big breath. That's a yawn! Everybody yawns, and animals do too. Nobody knows for sure why. One idea is that a yawn stretches your lungs and helps you feel a bit more awake.

Why did I yawn when you did?

When one person yawns, people nearby often start yawning too. Even thinking about a yawn can start one! So yawns seem to be catching, though nobody knows exactly why. Are you yawning yet?
